Power capacitors, used in power systems and electrical equipment. Any two metal conductors separated by an insulating medium form a capacitor. The capacitance of a capacitor is determined by its geometry and the characteristics of the insulating medium between the two plates. When a capacitor is used under ac voltage, the capacity of the capacitor is usually expressed in terms of its reactive power, and the unit is spent or kilo-spent. Series capacitors are mainly used to compensate the reactance of power systems and are often used in high voltage systems.
Classification of power capacitors
Power capacitors can be divided into indoor and outdoor types according to the installation mode; According to its rated operating voltage can be divided into low voltage and high voltage two categories; According to the number of phases, it can be divided into single-phase and three-phase, except for low-voltage shunt capacitors, the rest are single-phase; According to the shell material can be divided into metal shell, porcelain insulation shell, bakelite shell and so on.
According to the use can be divided into the following 8:
1) Shunt capacitor. Formerly known as phase shifting capacitor. It is mainly used to compensate the reactive power of the inductive load of the power system, so as to improve the power factor, improve the voltage quality and reduce the line loss.
2) series capacitors. It is connected in series in power frequency high voltage transmission and distribution lines to compensate the distributed inductive reactance of the line, improve the static and dynamic stability of the system, improve the voltage quality of the line, lengthen the transmission distance and increase the transmission capacity.
3) Coupling capacitor. It is mainly used for high frequency communication, measurement, control and protection of high voltage power lines, as well as as parts in devices for extracting electric energy.
4) Breaker capacitor. Originally called equalizing capacitor. Parallel connection on the break of uHV circuit breaker plays the role of voltage equalization, so that the voltage between the break is even in the process of breaking and breaking, and can improve the arc extinguishing characteristics of the circuit breaker, improve the ability of breaking.
5) Electric heating capacitor. For the frequency of 40 ~ 24000 hz electric heating equipment system, to improve the power factor, improve the circuit voltage or frequency and other characteristics.
6) Pulse capacitor. Mainly used for energy storage, impulse voltage generator, impulse current generator, circuit breaker test oscillation circuit and other basic energy storage components.
7) DC and filter capacitors. Used in high voltage dc device and high voltage rectifier filter device.
8) Standard capacitor. Used as standard capacitance or capacitance divider for measuring high voltage in power frequency high voltage measurement medium loss loop.
